Practice & Competition: 3–4 days/week
For athletes ready to take wrestling to the next level, the Travel Team offers advanced training with an emphasis on competition preparation. Wrestlers will continue developing technique and strategy with the expectation to compete in local, state, and national tournaments, including state qualifying events and the MNUSA Wrestling State Tournament. Tournament participation is required and may include multiple events per month.
We've made some adjustments to our Travel (formerly Advanced) team for 2025-26. In addition to incorporating mandatory competition participation, we are introducing a reimbursement program.
To receive a competition reimbursement, wrestlers and parents must:
Be a current Youth or Middle School Wayzata Wrestler
Register for the Tournament under "Wayzata Wrestling" as a team name
Compete in a Wayzata singlet/uniform
Wrestler's parents will need to fill out the tournament reimbursement form within 2 weeks of the tournament
The maximum entry fee amount per tournament is $45 per wrestler. With an annual maximum of $225 per wrestler for the 2025-2026 season. The list of qualifying tournaments will be provided at the start of the season.
Currently be in 8th grade or younger, and cannot be previously certified by the MSHSL. All High School athletes are ineligible, but are encouraged to attend any preseason or post-season events. HS wrestlers cannot compete at any of these events during the HS season.
Reimbursements will be distributed at the conclusion of the 2025/2026 season.
November 4, 2025 - March 15, 2026

Wayzata Wrestling Club's competitive travel team competes in dual meet tournaments throughout the season.
Competing with the travel team typically requires year round training. That does NOT mean that your wrestler cannot participate in other sports. We highly encourage additional participation, but that doesn't preclude travel wrestlers to find one or two days to get PRE or POST season training.
Wrestle offs are conducted throughout the season to build our most competitive roster. If you are interested in competing on the travel team, reach out to one of the coaches to inquire more.
Typical weight classes for tournaments:
45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 84, 88, 95, 102, 115, 130, HWT
